With nearly 17 years of experience, Matthew Neville, also known as Matte Black the Barber, has been a dedicated servant to the public—offering not just haircuts, but an unforgettable five-star grooming experience. With passion and precision, he’s artistically crafted thousands of styles through blood, sweat, and tears.

 

Matte began his journey in the 12th grade and graduated from The Real Barbers College in Anaheim in September 2009. He got his professional start at A-Unique Barbershop, where he worked full-time for five years—while also working part-time at Bolt Barbershop during that same period.

 

After gaining years of hands-on experience, he stepped out on his own to create a solo barber experience. Since then, he has evolved into a mobile barber and private studio owner, known for his high-end grooming and personal service. During this time, Matte was also contracted by Disneyland for barber services for 5 years, a testament to the professionalism, skill, and reliability that define his work.

 

Throughout his career, Matte has served as a manager, coach, and mentor to aspiring barbers. His ambition has always been to master all hair textures, styles, and barbering techniques—and even now, as a master barber, he continues sharpening his skills daily.

Matte coined the phrase “Bitcoin Fresh”, leading the charge in setting higher standards for pricing and professionalism in the barbering industry. He discovered Bitcoin in 2015 and by 2020 had fully embraced the Bitcoin Maximalist mindset. His pioneering spirit led him to become one of the first—if not the first—barbers to accept Bitcoin payments and integrate Lightning Network payments into his point-of-sale system.
